Achieving an optimal burn and prolonging the life of soy candles require a bit more than merely striking a match. In this article, we delve into the art of soy candle maintenance, exploring the essential steps you should take to ensure that your candles burn beautifully, safely, and efficiently. From the initial trimming of the wick to understanding burn time, consider this your guide. Following these tips and guidelines, will not only enhance the lifespan of your soy candle but also enrich your overall candle experience. So, let's light the way to a better burn with our step-by-step guide on mastering the art of soy candle care.

1. Trim the Wick

Before lighting your soy candle for the first time, ensure that the wick is trimmed to approximately ¼ inch in length. This helps promote an even burn but is also an important safety measure that prevents excessive smoke and flickering.

2. Find a Suitable Burning Surface

Place the soy candle on a heat-resistant and stable surface. Avoid placing it near flammable objects or in drafty areas to prevent accidents.

3. First Burn

When lighting your soy candle for the first time, allow it to burn long enough for the wax to melt across the entire surface. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's lifetime.

4. Subsequent Burns

For each subsequent burn, it is recommended to allow the soy candle to burn for a minimum of 1-2 hours or until the melted wax pool reaches the edges of the container. This allows the candle to achieve a full melt pool and prevents tunneling.

5. Burn Time

It is advisable to limit the burn time of a soy candle to a maximum of 4 hours at a time. This prevents the candle from overheating and extends its overall lifespan.

6. Extinguishing the Flame

To extinguish your soy candle, use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Avoid using the candle lid to smother the flame, as it may trap heat and create a safety hazard.

7. Safety Precautions

Remove candle from packaging before lighting. Always keep candles within sight and away from children and pets. Never burn the candle near flammable items or in drafty areas. Ensure that the candle is fully extinguished and the wax has solidified before moving or relighting it.  Discontinue use when 1/2" wax remains.

8. Candle Care

To maintain the quality of your soy candle, keep the wax pool free from debris, such as wick trimmings or matchsticks. Additionally, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as exposure to heat and sunlight can affect its scent and appearance.

Following these instructions will help you achieve the best burn experience, keep you safe, and maximize the enjoyment of your soy candle.
